Claude Monet in Potu o a ''oaoga

Over the past week we have been looking at Monet's life and art, and especially his paintings of water lillies.
We looked at the key elements of colour, space and art.
We used the different mediums of paint, collage and pastel to recreate our own water like master artwork.
These are some of our finished pieces.
Here are some others which are finished or still in the process of being created.
We learnt and practiced the process of choosing where we were going to place our water lilly shapes and the space needed in between to make it a balanced artwork.

The Cast of Survivors: Students vs Monsters

The teachers and Miss D especially are so proud of the fantastic effort of the children from Room 6's Reading Room in the assembly and the play. It was wonderful to be able to perform our play on Friday for the school and was a great climax before our long weekend.
Well done to our speakers and presenters and to all the rest of our beautiful classroom for your respect and focus in helping our assembly be a success!

Let's write a play!

Miss D always gets very excited when it's our turn for assembly. Currently the Room6 reading room is working on developing their own play for assembly. We are having to ask questions, think about the process, compromise and collaborate.

Art attack collage!

This week we have been learning about a famous artist called Monet. We have been re creating his work using collage, pastels and finger painting! Here are the beginning stages of our collages!

Art-Shading

Today we drew a fruit bowl and had to shade the areas where the light hit and created shadows. It was very tricky! But everyone was extremely resilient and tried our personal best.

Shake Out

Today we had the 'New Zealand Shake Out'.  This was our chance to practice what we would do in an earthquake.  We had to DROP! COVER! HOLD. After the drill we all met on the court in our classes.

Measuring a Pirate Ship

We have been learning about 1 metre.  We have found things measuring 1m, less than a metre and more than a metre.
Today we spent time drawing a Pirate Ship that had certain measurements.  We all have a better understanding what a metre is and how to measure different lengths.
